B-DNA v Z-DNA on Black
B-DNA, the standard configuration, is shown on the left. It has a right-handed double helix. Z-DNA (zig-zag configuration), has a left-handed double helix, and is slimmer. DNA encodes genetic information in the sequence of these bases (adenine, guanine, cytosine, and thymine). The coiling strands are made from a sugar phosphate polymer.
