Image of Panspermia: microbes in space

Image of panspermia, or the spread of life throughout space. Some extremophile organisms have survived the harsh conditions of space and this supports the contention that life could seed across the universe. In this image, a magnetic white dwarf star bathes a nearby protoplanetary system in circularly polarised ultra-violet radiation. Bacteria (green) are shown on the rocks.
