We all host billions of organisms in and on our bodies. The non-pathogenic collection is called the microbiota, and their complement of genes is the microbiome (like genome). This mixed colony is what may be called the flora (especially the gut flora). The gut microbiota can influence the brain, and there are images to illustrate the gut-brain axis or gut-brain connection.
