generalised flower diagram
Diagram of a generalised flower showing internal structure. Flowers are the reproductive parts of the angiosperms (flowering plants). Petals are shown in brilliant red. Petals are often brightly coloured to attract insect pollinators. The central columnar structure is the carpel, consisting of the ovary (at bottom), the style, and the stigma. Arrayed outside the carpel are the stamens consisting of a filament surmounted by an anther. Pollen is produced in these anthers and is transferred to the stigma of this or other flowers. At the base of the flower are the green sepals, which look like small petals.
