GOLGI COMPLEX: a pancake-like stack of membranous sacs. The Golgi receives proteins synthesised in the rough endoplasmic reticulum. These are ferried to the Golgi by transfer vesicles (the little golden spheres underneath the Golgi stack). The proteins are then processed by the Golgi for export, membrane use or for inclusion in lysosomes.
