A pendulum swings with the weight having maximum potential energy (red) at the highest points (extreme left and right). All of this potential energy is converted to kinetic energy (red) at the lowest point, when the pendulum is travelling fastest. A pendulum therefore oscillates between maximum potential and kinetic energy with each swing.
