A loop of wire carries a current, shown as a train of glowing electrons. Each moving electron generates a magnetic field shown as concentric blue circles. The overall effect is to create a magnetic field around the wire. If this wire loop is placed inside an external magnetic field, then magnetic repulsion will put forces on the loop. Such forces are the starting point for electric motors.
