Rabies virus. Rabies is an extremely dangerous disease (also called hydrophobia), often transmitted by the bite of an infected animal such as a dog or a bat. Typical bullet shaped virion covered by glycoprotein spikes (red). The spikes insert into the lipid membrane or viral envelope (greenish). Below the membrane lies the helical nucleoprotein containing the viral RNA.
